Shane stood behind a woman named Trina as she typed "Tarker Ames" into the computer. He did not have clearance from Poisson to use the group's hardware yet, but Trina had been more than cooperative when Shane had asked her to help him find out more about the guy who had tried to kill him. He had a feeling they didn't want him online just in case he accidentally gave away their location, but he appreciated the fact that they were willing to work with him.

Together, he and Trina watched as the information on the BBD agent appeared onscreen. The data on Ames was from the Truth Seekers' own files on the covert government agency. The database they had compiled on the BBD was extensive.

"That him?" Trina asked.

A frisson of trepidation went through Shane as a picture of the agent appeared along with a profile.

"Yeah. That's him."

Skimming the information over Trina's shoulder, Shane learned that Ames had been born in Alabama in February of 1973 and been raised by his grandmother after his parents were killed in a 1983 automobile accident. Shane felt bit uneasy as he realized that he and the BBD agent actually shared a life experience. His father, Don Monroe, had also died in a car crash.

Ames had been recruited out of high school by the FBI and continued to jump around from one government intelligence position to another earning a reputation as a top agent wherever he was assigned. Trina paged down so that Shane could read a little further and another chill went through him. Ames' psych profile classified him as a sociopath.

Great, he thought, just the kind of guy you want working for truth, justice and the American way.

Unable to look at the agent's creepy country boy face any longer he asked Trina to look for similar information on Iris Green. There's a face I wouldn't mind looking at, he mused as Trina typed her name into the file.

"Shane?"

He turned to see David Poisson standing behind him. "Hey, David. Trina was just helping me do some research on the enemy."

David blinked as a picture of Agent Green began to appear on the computer screen. "You won't find much on that one," he said, "she's new. But if she's been teamed with Ames you can bet she's trouble."

They were all quiet as a college graduation photo of the woman began to download. Shane didn't think it possible that she was as bad as Tarker Ames, but he had been a pretty bad judge of character of late.

"Shane, would you mind coming with me, please?" Poisson said as he walked from the operations room.

"What's up?" Shane asked. He thanked Trina, who waved and went back to the work he had interrupted. Then he joined Poisson and they went down the hall to the door of the command center. For some reason he felt as though he had done something wrong.

The leader of the Truth Seekers silently punched numbers into the electronic keypad and unlocked the door.
